Integrated Chemistry And Physics
Instructor: Ms. Turrel
This composite contains pictures of many scientists, both male and female, with whom you will become familiar during the year.  They are pioneers who sacrificed much for their work, and many of the things they accomplished are included in ICP.  For a larger version, click on "Composite of Scientists" below under "Class Web Pages."

Integrated Chemistry and Physics is an upper-level, Core-40 class designed to provide the student with a thorough understanding of many of the concepts also being taught in Physics and Chemistry I.  Basic algebra skills are required to successfully complete the course, but advanced mathematics is not emphasized.  Concepts discussed include Newton's Laws of Motion, thermal energy, electromagnetism, physical and chemical properties of matter, radioactivity, chemical bonding, acid-base chemistry, and food chemistry.

The class has been broken down into four units:

  • Linear motion
  • Energy
  • Atomic structure and nuclear chemistry
  • Chemistry of food

The first three units contain several projects that last from 3 days to 2 weeks.  The food chemistry unit includes two major projects:  Dietary analysis, and the development of an entirely new food product.  Students will have significant amounts of class time to work on assignments and projects, but working outside of class is necessary for success.

All information for class grades, supplies, and policies can be found under "Class Files" in the file, "Important Information."

Stuff you need to know
Final Exam Content List
I have uploaded the list of topics to study for your second semester final.  It is in the list of files.
Vitamins Powerpoint
Is uploaded and located in the Food Chemistry unit folder.
Dietary Analysis Project
Record your food consumption every day from today (Friday 4/23) through Tuesday 4/27.  If you lost your booklet, a copy of the Word file is in the Food Chemistry unit folder.  We will use computers in school on Wednesday 4/28, 4/29, and 4/30 to input the food.  If you need additional time, you'll have to complete this at home.  There is a link below to the USDA My Pyramid Tracker website.  I encourage you to show this to your parents, too, as it's a good tool for keeping track of activity levels, calories, fat grams, and other nutrients.
Opening pdf files
Remember, to open the pdf files stored on this page, you'll need Adobe Reader.  It's a free download and you can get it at www.adobe.com.
